Alanya is the furthest major resort from Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera. At 130 km, the drive covers more ground than Belek and Side combined — and it is the one route where the landscape transforms significantly along the way.

• Antalya Airport to Okurcalar (before Alanya): 115 km, 80 minutes

The road in three sections:

Section 1 — Airport to Side (65 km): Flat dual carriageway on the D400. The same road that Belek and Side tourists travel. Fast and consistent.

Section 2 — Side to Manavgat (5 km): D400 through Manavgat town. Can have traffic lights and some congestion in summer.

Section 3 — Manavgat to Alanya (60 km): The D400 continues east but the terrain changes. The Taurus Mountains begin to press toward the coast, and from roughly 100 km into the journey the road curves more frequently and has some short uphill sections. Speed limits drop to 70 km/h in several places. This is not a difficult mountain road — it is not comparable to the Kaş route — but it is distinctly different from the flat D400 you started on. From this section, the views of the mountain backdrop are genuinely striking.

Traffic patterns:

July and August Saturday mornings (09:00–12:00) are the most congested. The checkout rotation from the large Belek and Side resort hotels generates the most traffic in the first half of the route. The Manavgat junction can slow to 30 km/h in peak hour. Allow 2 hours for a worst-case summer Saturday arrival.

Outside these peak windows — weekdays, evenings, and shoulder season — 90 minutes is reliable.

Step-by-Step: From Plane to Alanya Hotel

At the airport

Step 1 — Land and clear customs. Terminal 2 handles the large majority of international charter and package holiday flights from Russia, Germany, UK, Netherlands, and Ukraine. Check your boarding pass — it says "ANTALYA T2" or "ANTALYA T1". Almost all Alanya tourists use T2.

Step 2 — Collect luggage. Free Wi-Fi is available at the baggage carousel area. Connect so you can message the booking system if needed. Confirm your arrival with a quick WhatsApp while waiting for luggage.

Step 3 — Exit through customs. Follow signs for "Arrivals" / "Çıkış" (exit). After customs, you enter the main arrivals hall.

Step 4 — Find your driver. In T2: turn left after the automatic sliding doors. The private transfer waiting zone is the first area on your left, before the taxi rank. Drivers hold printed A4 name signs. In T1: waiting zone is immediately to the right after the exit doors.

The journey

Step 6 — D400 eastbound. From the airport, the D400 runs flat through the coastal plain. You pass through the Belek zone at 43 km, then Side at 65 km. The road is dual carriageway and well-signposted.

Step 7 — Manavgat and beyond. After passing Side, you cross the Manavgat river and continue east. From here the road becomes slightly more varied — some gentle curves, some sections of single carriageway through small towns, but nothing difficult. The Taurus Mountains become more dramatic as you near Alanya.

Step 8 — Alanya arrival. The city is visible from a distance — the castle rock rising above the sea. Your driver navigates to your specific hotel. Large all-inclusive resorts (Utopia World, Granada Luxury, Eftalia) have security-checked entrances that add 3–5 minutes. Alanya city hotels are accessed directly.

Alanya Sub-Zones: Okurcalar, Alanya Centre & Mahmutlar

Okurcalar (15 km before Alanya centre): Okurcalar is a resort zone on the D400 approximately 15 km west of the Alanya city boundary. The approach through the city involves traffic lights and roundabouts — add 5 minutes compared to a resort on the bypass road.

Mahmutlar (10 km east of Alanya centre): Mahmutlar has grown significantly as a residential and rental-apartment destination. Many European long-stay visitors live here. Hotels and apartments in Mahmutlar are covered at the Alanya price (€160 sedan) and take approximately 100 minutes from the airport. Specify the Mahmutlar address or postcode at booking.

On the bus option: There is no direct airport bus to Alanya. HAVAS serves Antalya city centre only. July and August: Alanya is one of Turkey's most popular summer destinations. The large resorts run at full capacity and driver demand is at its highest of the year. For families arriving on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, book at least a week in advance.

October: Alanya's shoulder season is one of its best. Sea temperature remains warm (24–26°C), hotel prices drop, and the crowds thin from mid-October. Transfer demand stays high through early October.

The 90-minute D400 journey is generally well-suited to families. The road is smooth, flat for the majority, and without the hairpin curves of a mountain transfer.
